Planscape is a free decision support tool built to maximize wildfire resilience and ecological benefits across the State of California.
Planscape helps regional planners prioritize landscape treatments to mitigate fire risk, maximize ecological benefits and help California’s landscapes adapt to climate change
Planscape is a collaborative effort by the California Natural Resources Agency and US Forest Service, The University of California, and Spatial Informatics Group (SIG) with support from Google.org.

“Californians are threatened by worsening wildfires driven by an overheated, unstable climate,” said California Secretary for Natural Resources Wade Crowfoot. “Planscape will leverage science and data to help deliver wildfire resilience projects that protect our communities and natural places.”

Why we are different?

Evaluating hundreds of thousands of acres of land for treatment is daunting. Planscape quickly helps you determine the best areas for different types of treatment.
The quality of your analysis is only as good as your data. Planscape uses the Regional Resource Kits – the latest, scientist-approved data, specific to the unique ecology of each eco-region. Data is updated bi-annually.
Planscape is built on top of powerful analysis tools such as ForSys, FVS and GridFire. We integrate them in an intuitive user interface, for free, in any web browser. This simplifies and accelerates the analysis process, letting your team collaborate together on a single plan.
In areas such as climate change, where the data and science is evolving quickly, our open-source platform ensures you have access to the latest capabilities (e.g., PROMOTe) and can incorporate them into your planning.
Planscape is a free, open-source tool that is supported by major agencies including the USFS, CNRA, University of California, the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Taskforce, and Google.org. No commercial entity owns or profits from Planscape.
